Where James was before
James leads a large company with high pressure, and has done for years. He needed to take some time back for himself and challenge himself in a different way. He wanted to lose weight, improve fitness and find something he could really sink his teeth into.
The first three to four months
The first physical change was the weight. Around 10kg gone in the first three to four months, and a steady trajectory from there. He is now down 12kg in total, from 100.6kg to 88kg.
My main goals when joining were to lose weight, improve fitness and compete in HYROX events. The 5K moves the way the HYROX moves, and the HYROX moves the way the strength work moves. None of it is by accident.

James ran a 5K PB at our track night in September 2025: 21:14, down from a starting point of around 24 high in February. He then improved again to 19:52 in December.
On the HYROX side he has set two PBs in his first year. 1:12:51 in Manchester. Then a new PB of 1:09:39 in Belgium. The training has been deliberate. The improvements are not random.
What is next
The targets for the summer: 5K below 19 minutes. HYROX solo time below 65 minutes at Birmingham at the end of October. And he is keen to chase a sub-hour HYROX doubles as soon as possible. Alongside that, we are layering in more strength work and more deliberate mobility.
